Funtasia funds 400 SchoolBags for children caught in the Nepal floods
Funtasia Entertainment has donated £10,000 to Somerset charity School in a Bag, funding 400 SchoolBags for children affected by August’s flash floods in Nepal.
On 26 August 2026, a flash flood swept down the Bhote Koshi river in northern Nepal. Communities in the Rasuwa district lost homes, roads and bridges, and many children were left with nothing to take back to school.
School in a Bag, based in Chilthorne Domer just outside Yeovil, launched its Nepal Flash Flood Appeal in response. The charity has worked in Nepal since 2012 through its local partner HELP, and has already delivered more than 26,000 SchoolBags to children there.
What a SchoolBag is
A SchoolBag is a rucksack filled with the basics a child needs to learn. A typical one holds exercise books, pens, pencils, colouring pencils, a maths set, a water bottle and a lunchbox.
For this appeal the rucksacks and their contents are being bought in Kathmandu, so work can begin quickly.
After a disaster, the charity explains, a SchoolBag does more than replace what was lost. It helps children get back into the routine of school, even in temporary classrooms, and gives them a way to write and draw about what they have been through.
Where our 400 bags are now
Every SchoolBag carries its own number, so a donor can follow it from packing to the child who receives it. Ours are numbers 198669 to 199068 and they are currently waiting to be packed. We will share updates as they make their way to children in Nepal.
How to help
The appeal’s fundraising page has now closed, but School in a Bag sends SchoolBags to disadvantaged and disaster-affected children around the world all year. You can donate or find out more at www.schoolinabag.org.
